Specialised receptor and ligand proteins are found on the surfaces of cells. These give rise to distinct molecular assemblies that instruct cell behaviour. Understanding the rules that govern the assembly of these receptor-ligand complexes requires detailed knowledge of their structures and signalling properties. We use cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography and a range of biophysical and cell biology techniques to reveal fundamental mechanisms by which receptors control biological processes in the neural and vascular systems. Our lab is very collaborative and there is opportunity to liaise with other teams for access to specialised techniques such as super-resolution microscopy and in situ biology.
