Owen joined the Seiradake lab in 2018, supported by the Department of Biochemistry Studentship. His research area investigated the role of adhesion proteins, their binding properties and how this is implicated in neurological disease. Watch this space for his paper to come out. After his DPhil, Owen moved on to a prestigious postdoctoral research post in the team of Simon Newstead, at Oxford. Before starting his DPhil, Owen competed a research Masters in Oxford with Prof Anthony Watts. In this project he used protein engineering to develop a wavelength-specific molecular bio-sensor for use as a replacement for conventional silicon based components.
Prior to his research at Oxford, Owen completed a B.Sc. from the University of Kent (2014-2017) and spent his summer vacations working for the agrochemicals company Syngenta. Over a period of 5 years he was employed in their formation chemistry, biology and entomology departments.
